Improvements
- Why isn’t Auburn 3?
- If Cinci is 2 why is Iowa 10? I don’t see any major differences other than the expectation that Cinci will be better.
- Stanford is so high. Why?
- Pretty much after the top 12 or so it can be anything. So its hard to nit pick. I just don’t like the bottom half of your bracket at all.
I had Auburn higher, then moved them down. I think I’ll bump them back up (wins over Rocky Top, WVU, Miss State)
Iowa could be higher, but they lose a little for barely beating Arkansas State.
Stanford is 3-0 in the PAC-10, knocking off previously undefeated UCLA and beating the crap out of a Washington team that’s given everyone else (LSU, USC, ND) a lot of trouble.
I don’t like the bottom half at all, either.

Hmmm...
This seems sketchy to me. I have a hard time believing that Virginia Tech is better than Florida or Texas.

They probably aren't..
but VT has wins over Miami (FL) and Nebraska, with their lone loss being a competitive-but-ugly game against the number one team in the land. Florida’s best win is a rout at Kentucky and Texas’ best win might be the rout of a UTEP team that just beat Houston. As the season progresses, Texas and Florida will probably move on up, but for now, they don’t have enough quality wins to do so.

Fair enough...
I guess if you are going to base a poll purely on merit instead of potential I dont have much problem with this then.

yeah and it's how polls should be done.
The pre-season polls have a huge say in how a team ends up ranked. If you are ranked in the top-10, you can lose a couple over the course of the year, and you can still finish the year close to the same. If you are in the teens or 20’s — forget it —you lose a couple, you re out… and you’ve got to scratch your way just to get back in.
There shouldn’t be pre-season polls. Do the first poll like 5 weeks into the season- that way, a bit of the contenders and pretenders have been brought to light, and a team’s ranking will be based on merit— not on “expert” opinions on how they think or thought teams will do.
Oh I completely agree...
unfortunately you and I know this will never happen.

The best way to improve this poll is to trash it
These rankings are absurd. Hard to imagine how anyone can post them with a straight face. Or maybe that is the point, it is just a big goof.
I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.

I don't need to post my rankings.
Who cares what a Ione person thinks the rankings should be? But I stand by my original comment. Any poll that ranks Boise State and Cincinnati ahead of Florida, Texas or LSU is a waste of cyberspace.

Probably
I don’t normally care what a lone person thinks the rankings should be, but I would love to dissect yours.
I can support a system that aims to, over the course of a season or half of a season, rank teams based on their “resume.” I believe CW has stated in the past that he would prefer to wait 6 weeks or so before he started ranking teams, but is required to submit a vote every week.
I don’t know how good Florida is this year. I’m curious to find out this weekend. I am not sure that Boise or Cinci would lose to Texas or LSU.
