Irish lose heartbreaker; UConn 72, Notre Dame 65
I wish you could all feel how pissed I am. A great game for most of the Irish (save Harangody at times thinking Thabeet was not 8 inches taller then him, Peoples' missed layup, and Brey's atrocious substitution/timeout strategy) but in the end they were just out talented.
What really kills me is how important this game was for us. It should never have been a game where we desperately needed a win. That is what it really all comes down to. You take care of the St. John's and Cincinnati's, and you don't have to worry about a difficult road game at Connecticut. More to come after I cool off...

I'm not sure why you're pissed
I’m very sad, but we played very well against a very good team and almost won a tough game on the road. Granted, I’d prefer this game be like last year’s close loss at UConn – playing for seeding instead of tournament survival – but that was a great effort from all parties. Active on both ends of the floor, getting to the rim, hard fouls, some onions.

Your rationale for not being pissed is a lot like Brey’s “Oh, shucks….I’m just glad we came out of there alive!!!” attitude.
I am pissed everytime we lose. I don’t think we had to lose that game. For a lot of reasons. And even if we didn’t win the game, we shouldn’t have been in the position we are in. That makes me sad/pissed.
It's not worth getting angry every loss
Yeah, it sucks, but even great college hoops teams drop a handful of games every seasons. Good ones playing in a tough conference drop a lot. I get sad when we lose, but it’s not worth it getting overly angry every time. Maybe that makes me a bad fan, but I’ll live with that

Why is better to get sad than angry?
I think you’re both pretty much saying the same thing – that you’re emotionally invested in the success or lack-thereof of the basketball team. And I think that’s one of the fundamental aspects of being a fan.
