Yes, it was great to finally beat SC
but it is sad that the faithful are so excited about a 7-5 season. Let’s hope this is the last time that happens for a very long while.
I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.

USC still has some talent
A win’s a win, and a guaranteed above .500 finish is nice too. In the immortal words of Herm Edwards “We can build on this!”

Indeed we can build on this.
I’d take this feeling as opposed to how I felt after Stanford beat us down last November any day of the week.
Jonathan Toews will eat your baby if it means two points.
When was the last time you could honestly say
that the team looked significantly improved at the end of the season from where it was at the beginning?
I’m not sure I can remember a season where that was true.

Oddly enough, maybe 2007
when we closed the season with wins against Stanford and Duke. Granted, those were very bad Stanford and Duke teams so I guess it’s just how you look at it.
But the week-to-week improvement on defense since the Navy debacle has been pretty impressive. I was sure Diaco was in over his head but he’s done a great job these last few games.
Im trying to keep myself from getting too excited about this 3 game win streak.

I was really glad to see some of the senior back-ups contribute last night
Kamara had a touchdown, Hughes had a great game, and Brian Smith has been playing well since he started filling in for Calabrese. Those guys haven’t played as much as I’m sure they would have liked this season, so I was happy to see them make the most of their chance.
This game was for the Seniors!!
The guys who suffered through 3-9; 7-6; 6-6 seasons during what is supposed to be the best years of their lives. The guys who have suffered some of the worst lopsided defeats to USC and Michigan in Notre Dame history! Now… like Gerry Faust’s seniors under Lou Holtz… they can proudly say they “laid the foundation!”
