Michigan at Notre Postgame Thread: Poll Style
Sorry for the huge delay in the postgame thread, everyone, but didn't get back to Chicago until late last night. We'll do a full recap tomorrow, but for now, I have a question for you. Use this to talk about anything you want about the game yesterday, from the good to the very bad.
Enjoy the FIBA championship game and opening NFL Sunday. Ponder this loss a little more and we'll get back at it tomorrow as we begin the haul to get ready for Michigan State.

Results are going to be skewed towards FG because of the games outcome.
That said. I would have kicked the field goal considering the QB situation. If we had Crist in the game, I would have been fine either way.
Either way...
Someone please get a video of BKelly after Montana threw that ball way over the end zone… the look on his face was absolutely classic.

As a Michigan fan
I think it entirely depends on if you think Crist is going to be able to come back in the second half. If the coaching staff doesn’t know if he’ll be good to go for the rest of the game, then go for it; you may not get many points.
If they knew he’d be good to go in the second half (as it turned out he was) then I think you have to kick it and put the game on Crist.
ND is a good team. I didn’t like watching Crist throwing against our secondary. I will admit to liking all of the sad faces that Kelly made throughout the game though.
Kelly said going into the half that they weren't sure if Crist was coming back out.
And yeah… Kelly’s faces were classic.

Im not pissed at going for it.
I just think you don’t leave points on the field. The one thing I will say, our defense doesnt look any different then years past. We are gonna make someone a Heisman winner.

Hindsight is 20-20
As someone noted, kicking it seems in hindsight to be the best decision.
However, I was sitting in the stadium losing my mind when we didn’t kick it. I was so incensed I didn’t even stand up to see what happened. I just sat down and said, “well this is stupid.” And sure enough…
Same song, different verse. I’m glad our coaching change has had so much of a difference. As Colin Cowherd said this morning “Every year I hear this should be different, and they end up looking like the same Notre Dame team for the last 20 years.” Exactly.

I have an mp3 on my hard drive
where Colin claimed in 2005 that ND would be in the national title picture for the next 10 years. So, well, he can stuff it.
Meanwhile, I’m not throwing the towel in on Kelly after just two games.

It's too early
to throw in the towel saying that it’s still the same ol’ schtick. Much different game if Crist isn’t out for virtually the whole first half besides a successful and fast TD drive…
Cowhhered is an idiot blowhard
He has an opinion about everything, but as soon as he touches on a subject that you actually have some knowledge on, you realize how clueless Cowherd actually is.
Field goal
Nate Montana must have thought he had Dwight Clark in the back of the end zone. Gotta go with the three points on this one. Kelly made one or two other mistakes too..

I was OK with the decision to go for it.
I was under the impression that Crist was not coming back for the second half, so I thought it was worth it to go for the TD.
What is really unfortunate is ND’s backup-QB situation. Rees looked terrible and should probably not have been used. Montana looked OK, but was far from good. If Crist can’t stay healthy, this is going to be a LONG season.
I didn’t expect ND to win every game this season, they need to move on, and beat MSU in their house.
